What is Alternative Addiction Treatment?
There are two distinct types of addiction treatment facilities. There is the traditional rehab center which is clinical, hospital, or motel like in appearance and then there is the alternative addiction treatment facility which is more residential looking.
Unlike the looks of the traditional treatment and recovery centers, the alternative format is far less intimidating to the individual. Typically, the facilities that a client resides in offers them a homelike setting complete with many of the amenities that they are used to at home.
Traditional facilities rely on the older, more conventional therapies that many consider ineffective and out of date whereas the alternative addiction treatment centers employ more modern, innovative therapies to address the addicted individual’s needs.
The traditional facilities take a more generalized approach to addiction treatment and recovery meaning that they treat every individual the same regardless of their differences.
Since no two individuals are alike, no two rehab programs are either. This is the most important factor that leads to multiple relapses after traditional treatment and recovery while the success rates of alternative addiction treatment is high.
What to Expect with Alternative Addiction Treatment
Whether it is an in-patient long-term or short-term rehab program, or an intensive out-patient format, there are certain things to expect when you undergo an alternative addiction treatment program including:
- Detoxification and withdrawal – this is the stage when the body gets rid of the accumulated toxins to be successful in treatment.
- Group and individual counseling – Counseling and psychological therapy ensures that the root cause of addiction is eliminated.
- Aftercare and support – To ensure that there are no relapses, it is best to join an aftercare program and have the support of the peers.
Additionally, if you choose the in-patient format, you will have to reside on-site where as the out-patient program will allow you to return home in the evenings. Remember to be open and honest with your peers and the staff members around you while at the same time following the rules of the alternative addiction treatment program.
Once you have completed the program, there will be challenges such as confronting potentially harmful situations and the temptation to drink alcohol or use drugs again. However, with our educative ‘recovery tools’ set of skills that are taught, recognizing and controlling the triggers is easier.
